Decorating is a simple activity that the whole family can get involved in, can instantly refresh your home and get you in the mood for the festivities. We store all our seasonal decorations in plastic storage boxes in the garage, so each year it’s like finding little treasures that we can bring out again and again.
If you’re looking to get your home ready for Easter here are 5 simple but effective decorating ideas to inspire you:

Ideas for Easter themed decorations |
1. Easter Tree
An Easter tree is a sweet and cost effective way to decorate for Easter. Simply gather some twigs from your garden and arrange them in a vase (twisted hazel branches work really well for this if you can get hold of some but really anything will do). You may need to weigh down your vase to make sure it doesn’t topple over. Alternatively you can buy a faux twig tree like this one from Dunelm.
You can hang little Easter themed decorations such as eggs, ribbons, bunnies or chicks from the branches. Last year we made salt dough decorations that we painted and hung from the tree with pastel coloured ribbons. You can also pick up really pretty pre-made decorations from shops like Hobbycraft or TK Maxx which can be re-used every year.

2. Easter Wreath
Wreaths aren’t just for Christmas! A seasonal Easter wreath can really brighten up your front door or any wall in your home and if you aren't using fresh flowers it can be bought out each year. You could have a go at making your own wreath using either a wire or woven base and incorporating fresh or faux spring flowers such as lilies, forsythia, hydrangeas or daffodils, you can get pretty much everything you would need from craft shops or garden centres. Children can get involved too with this wreath making set from Baker Ross or if they are feeling really creative they could use make use of some old egg boxes with this effective: Egg carton flower wreath.
3. Table decor
If you are hosting an Easter lunch or Easter egg hunt this year, a lovely table centrepiece can really set the mood the options are endless. Vases with fresh flower arrangements always look and smell wonderful or you could incorporate things like mini easter baskets, candles or run an easter garland down the length or the table. We really like this traditional, gingham tablecloth from Marks and Spencer. And you could add a cute, Easter touch by folding your napkins to look like bunny ears.
Grazing boards are very popular and you could make yours Easter themed by incorporating pastel-coloured treats such as mini eggs, chocolate eggs, bunny-shaped cookies, cheese, crackers and fresh fruit. Just display by grouping together handfuls of each food on wooden serving boards or platters and guests are able to ‘graze’ and pick at the snacks.
4. Decorated Eggs
Decorating eggs is a classic Easter tradition and whether you’re using dye, paints or even stickers there are so many creative ways to decorate eggs. If using real eggs make sure to hard boil them first for about 10-12 minutes or alternatively you can blow out the white and yolk instead of cooking them. Egg blowing is a little more complicated and makes the egg more fragile. You can use food colouring like this to stain your egg shell or I like this idea of decorating your eggs to look like each family member or celebrities! If your children can be a little rough handed or you want to make them last longer then you can use fake eggs.
5. Spring Flowers
Grabbing a bunch of fresh flowers from your local supermarket is a simple way to brighten your home. Daffodils or tulips are bright and springy without being too expensive or even better you could cut some from your garden if you have some available. Once the cut flowers are slightly past their best (but not at the crispy stage!) you could even press the flower heads as a fun activity with the kids, you can buy pre-made flower presses or simply sandwich the flowers between two pieces of kitchen roll and weigh down with some heavy books. Depending on the thickness of the flower you may have to wait a few weeks for flowers to be fully dried but when ready they can be used to decorate things like bookmarks or cards.
